“In silence
the devil speaks, Can you hear it? Can you hear it?
Can you see
the stars from there? Only God knows, only god knows
Low, so low,
theres got to be a different way out
Low, so low, theres
got to be a different way out”
Moving lyrics from “Different
Way Out,” the new single from Ireland's The
Vibes. Members of the band, all in their 20s, were acutely impacted by a friend who took his own life, and wanted to raise awareness in their home country of suicide and mental illness, especially in young people. Proceeds from the single sales in Ireland benefit AWARE, an agency supporting suicide prevention.
The key to releasing “Different
Way Out” is to encourage mainstream discussion on mental health
issues and depression. “By releasing this single, our ambition is
to garner profile for the excellent and, sadly, very much needed services
offered by Aware especially in media streams that may not be
usually open to the organization, such as music shows and mainstream
entertainment shows,” said lyricist and lead singer with The Vibes, Leo
Logan.
The
band will be issuing live dates shortly to coincide with the release of
“Different Way Out” & have recently also performed on the IMRO Showcase
2010 tour.
The Vibes two
singles prior to this release have been greatly supported by most radio
stations together with TV and print media. The band’s debut single went
Top 15 week one of release. The band’s songwriting has also been given the nod of
approval from other sources in winning the 2FM song contest and also the
National IMRO An Tostal Song Contest in 2005.
Similar
to the band’s last single “You’ll See My Heart” (Released November 2009), “Different Way Out” has been mixed by Philip Magee
(The Script, Delta Goodrem, Brian McFadden & Aslan amongst others).
